On Friday August 25th 2017, at about 6:00pm, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office executed a warrant at N7339 STH 73 in the Township of Eaton.

The warrant was a result of a private citizen from Illinois petitioning the Circuit Court stating a horse there was a victim of cruel and unusual punishment.

The Clark County Sheriff’s office with a licensed Veterinarian from the Grassland Veterinary Service arrived at the residence, made contact with the owner, Hareld Heck, and located the horse.

The Veterinarian examined the horse and found no medical issues present. The horse was not underweight, water was present and it showed no signs of abuse or neglect. His report indicated the horse was healthy with no notable diseases or problems. The horse was not in any pain or discomfort and he didn’t see any evidence to support cruelty charges.

The horse has been a topic of social media criticism recently with several people stating the horse is a victim of cruel and unusual treatment. It is our hope that the recent veterinarian examination of the horse and living conditions will bring the allegations to rest.

We would like to remind everyone that social media may contain inaccuracies, rumors or gossip and you should treat the information obtained from social media sources accordingly until proven otherwise. Making false statements or allegations against someone is serious and may have legal consequences.

Each complaint that the Clark County Sheriff’s Office receives about animal abuse and neglect is taken seriously and investigated.
