Fallen power lines and exploding transformers may have started the northern California wildfires that killed a Wisconsin couple and 21 others.
K-G-O T-V in San Francisco says the emergency dispatch recordings from the start of Sunday's fires included reports of electric lines dropping in high winds, and transformers exploding. Winds of more than 75 miles-an-hour hit the North San Francisco Bay Area late Sunday and early Monday. Among those killed were Hartford natives and U-W Madison grads Charles and Sara Rippey -- who celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Charles was 100 and his wife 98.
