Polk County OWI Arrest

George James Sleva, 28 years of age, from Taylors Falls, MN has been arrested by the Wisconsin
State Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 2nd offense, with one
child in the vehicle under the age of 16.
 
On Saturday, January 6, 2018 at approximately 2:32 p.m. the Wisconsin State Patrol received a
report of a crash with injuries at STH-46 and 35th Avenue George James Sleva, age 28, of Taylors
Falls, MN was eastbound on 35th Ave with a Chevrolet Cobalt and slid through the stop sign
colliding with a northbound Ford Escape on STH-46 operated by Judy Ann Schwartzbauer, age 52,
of Amery, WI. Sleva was accompanied by Melissa Lee Riehle, age 36, Eau Claire, WI and a 15 year
old passenger. Riehle received non life threatening injuries and was treated at Amery Hospital.
Sleva had an odor of an intoxicant on his breathe. Sleva was field tested and arrested for OWI, 2nd
offense with a minor in the vehicle. An evidentiary blood test was obtained from Sleva and he was
transported to Polk County Jail and incarcerated.
 
Schwartzbauer and a 12 year passenger in her vehicle were transported to Amery and treated for
non-life threatening injuries.
 
Amery Fire Department, Amery Ambulance, Amery Police Department, and Polk County Sheriff
assisted at the scene.
 
"Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6,
Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is
presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
