“Walking & Talking Crops” Field Day: Post Planting

Please join Clark County Land Conservation, NRCS, UW-Extension and the North Central Wisconsin No-tillers for a June post planting field day. June 19, 2018 is the date on the Elam Shirk farm located at 15423 Fischer Ave., Thorp WI from 12:30 – 3:00.

Elam has been experimenting with no-till practices on his farm and he will share his observations from his farm.

Jane Reigel, Clark County NRCS will demonstrate the rainfall simulator and discuss how rainfall and crop management will contribute to potential soil erosion.

Amanda Kasparek, from Clark County land conservation will demonstrate the soil volcano and discuss the impact of tillage and carbon capture in the soil.

Richard Halopka, Clark County UW-Extension Crops & Soils agent will discuss and demonstrate how a corn plant develops and timing of applying nitrogen to the growing crop.

Jason Cavadini, assistant Agriculture Research Superintendent at the Marshfield station will lead a peer post planting group discussion of the central WI no-tillers group.

This field day will beneficial for farmers, agronomy, and agency professional. You are welcome to attend no matter how far you travel.


The field day will have timely topics and demos to provide information to improve crop production management and soil health on your farm.


There is no cost for this field day. Field days are rain or shine events, so please come dressed accordingly. CEU’s are applied for both field days. Watch for UWEX field signs to the location.
