Emergency officials in Sauk County say crews were able to remove a patient from an ambulance just before the vehicle went up in flames Sunday evening.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department says deputies received a call at around 6:30 P-M Sunday, reporting an ambulance was running in emergency mode with flames underneath on Highway 12 near Baraboo. The ambulance pulled over to the side of Highway 12 near the bottom of Sauk Hill. When deputies arrived, the vehicle was still on fire and the ambulance crew was in the process of removing occupants. Shortly after getting everyone out, the ambulance went up in flames. One ambulance transported the patient to the hospital. Emergency crews say another ambulance had to respond because someone suffered from smoke inhalation during the fire. Sheriff's officials have not said what caused the ambulance to catch on fire.
