Abnormally wet and cool conditions throughout the state have created a challenging start to this year’s
growing season.

Farmers may be left wondering what impact these weather conditions will have on crop
health as the summer progresses.
UW-Extension will be hosting a crop management field day on July 17 to address regionally specific field
crop topics. State Extension specialists Damon Smith, field crop pathologist, and Bryan Jenson, field crop
entomologist, will provide updates and considerations to assist in management decisions for the
remainder of the season.
The field day will take place at two locations: A morning meeting will be held from 9am-11am in
Independence hosted by the Scott and Rick Halama Farm, N40782 Halama Rd. An afternoon meeting
will be hosted by the Matt Murray farm approximately 5 miles north of Black River Falls on the East side
of Highway 12 (watch for Extension signs marking the field). There is no charge to attend the program
but please bring your own lawn chair if needed. Light refreshments will be provided.

Please contact the Jackson Extension office at 715-284-4257 or the Trempealeau Extension office 715-
538-1963 for more information.
