Wisconsin needs an upgrade to its suicide prevention efforts.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports the state's suicide rate jumped by 40 percent between 2000 and 2017. Over the most recent four-year period people 45-to-54 years old were most likely to kill themselves, with 71 percent using a gun. Suicide was the second-leading cause of death among Wisconsin adolescents.
