Four children and one adult were injured a car versus horse and buggy crash Thursday afternoon.

It happened about 5:40 on US Highway 10 near McGower Road in the Town of Cleveland. Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera says the initial investigation found that both vehicles were traveling West when the lone driver of the car struck the buggy, with an adult and four children, from behind. All passengers in the buggy were transported to area hospitals for injuries. No names are being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Sheriff Waldera reminds all drivers of the importance of your full attention while driving a motor vehicle. According to Arrive Alive, 18% of fatal traffic crashes are caused by distracted driving. The Sheriff says it’s more than just texting or using a cellphone behind the wheel. Distracted driving also includes other actions like eating and searching for items underneath a seat.
