Much of northern and central Wisconsin is bracing for a major winter storm this weekend.

The National Weather Service says a foot or more of snow could fall in the northwest along Lake Superior. The city of Superior's tree lighting ceremony and Santa Claus visit are being moved from tonight (Saturday) until Wednesday due to expected heavy snow and gusty winds. Mayor Jim Paine is asking residents in the area to stay off the roads until Sunday morning. Winter storm warnings and advisories are posted through tomorrow.
