La Crosse police say more than 50 private residences and businesses have signed up already to let their security cameras be used to solve crimes.
Police say video footage is a “huge thing” when investigating crimes. The department will locate where each camera is on a map and when a crime is committed nearby, they will contact the homeowner, if registered, hoping it was captured on video. The department is working to have the local system operational by the end of this month. Investigators won’t have access to the live feed and they will have to ask for the footage each time.
