Pandemic Blamed For 40% Increase In Burn Patients Showing Up At Hospitals

Doctors at the University of Wisconsin Health Burn and Wound Center report they are seeing a 40-percent increase in patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

The increase in adult burn victims is almost entirely due to accidents in the kitchen. Stay at home orders have meant more people are cooking at home. Doctors say they are also treating young patients for water burns. The Center’s director says it’s important to keep children away from hot surfaces in the kitchen and make sure no toys are near the stove or any open flames.
