Construction starts soon on the largest solar farm in western Wisconsin.
Xcel Energy announced it is moving forward with the 74-megawatt project on private land in Pierce County. Xcel has already announced it plans to deliver carbon-free electricity to all of its customers by 2050. County officials approved permits for the project on 11 hundred acres of land in August. They expect the solar array to generate nearly 300 thousand dollars-a-year in shared revenue payments when it is in operation.
