Betty Jean (Gohde) Harp, age 85, of Merrillan made it to her Heavenly home on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
She was born May 30, 1932 in Racine, WI to Louis and Margaret (Williams) Gohde. Betty was the 3rd of 7 children in her family. At the age of 17, she went to work at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine as a Nurse’s assistant and worked her way up to Private Duty Nurse.
Betty met the love of her life, Clifton G.R. Harp Sr., and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Racine. They lived and raised their family in Racine until they moved to Merrillan in 1970 where they owned and operated Cliff and Betty’s Tavern for two years. From there, they moved to Hixton where they resided until Cliff Sr.’s passing. Betty then moved to Merrillan where she could be closer to her children and resided there until her death. Betty loved cats and being at home with her family.
She is survived by a sister, Patricia Anderson, a brother, Larry Gohde, both of Racine; many nieces and nephews; her children: Theresa Jean (Gregory) Butterfield, Clifton G. Harp Jr. both of Merrillan and Mary Jane Harp of Brockway; grandchildren: Charles Butterfield, Melissa (Forrest) McKee, Anthony (Minna) Butterfield, Lakota (Tyler Regan) Butterfield, Cree Butterfield and Wyatt Mack; great-grandchildren: Johnny, Reesee, Ezekio, Asha, Quindelle, Larry, Maya, Cayo, Charles, Anne Marie and Grei; great-great grandchildren: Sasha, Riley and twins Damon and Daxton.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, Clifton Sr., brothers; Donny and Gary Gohde; sisters: Delores Gearing and Darlene Doran.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Riverside Cemetery with pastor Meg Erickson officiating.
