Rosella Kappen (Mary Evelyn Rosella Doud Thompson Kappen), 94, life-long resident of Black River Falls, WI passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday Oct 24th, 2018.

She was born as the 7th child to Leonard Nelson Doud and Olive Estelle (Payne) Doud on September 18, 1924. She graduated from Black River Falls High School. She married Tilman Thompson on December 2, 1946. They settled in the Hixton area. After Tilman died on September 20, 1962, she moved to back Black River Falls where she met and later married Jerry Kappen on April 21, 1966.

Rosella is survived by stepson Tom Thompson (Jan), son Mervin Thompson (Del) and daughters, Rhonda Thompson, Pamela Thompson-Finn (Jim) and step children; Mike Kappen (Leanne), John Kappen (Debbie), Kay Larson (Leonard). She also leaves behind 16 Grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rosella will be especially remembered for her thoughtful nature, kind and generous heart and her special poems and songs that she wrote for people throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband Tilman Thompson, and her second husband Jerry Kappen, stepson, Kent Kappen, 4 sisters; Doris Marie, Elizabeth Estelle Eleanor (Betty), Ruth Starling Norma (Starling), and Marion Cecelia, and 3 brothers; Leonard Nicholas (Bud) Hiram Richard (Hi), Eugene Victor (Gene).

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, Nov 17th, 2018 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 115 N. 5th St., Black River Falls with Pastor Eric Bakken officiating. Inurnment will take place at Upper Pigeon Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hr. prior to the service.

Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
