Gordon M. Johnson, 93, of Menominee, MI, entered his heavenly home with family by his side and holding his hand, on November 22nd, 2019, at Aurora Medical Center in Marinette, WI.

He was born on April 19, 1926 in Ambrose, North Dakota to Rev Orlando and Bergetta Johnson. His childhood years were spent in ministry along with his parents living in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. His favorite childhood home was the family homestead out on the prairie near Wilton, North Dakota. He enjoyed spending time with his North Dakota relatives. Around eight years of age, he felt God calling him to full-time ministry. He graduated from Wilton High School and then attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck, graduating with a diploma in accounting.

In 1945 he was drafted by the army to serve his country in World War II and was stationed at Fort Snelling until the war ended. He then attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and graduated with a degree in Pastoral Studies. During his senior year he met Hildred Lou Johnson of Wisconsin Dells, WI. They were married on June 14, 1952. They traveled for two years in evangelistic ministry and then were called to the pastorate of the Assembly of God church in Black River Falls, WI, where they served for 36 years. The program aired the first Saturday the radio station was on the air. It touched many lives. Pastor Johnson served for 24 years on the District Board of Presbyters of the Wisconsin Northern Michigan District of the Assemblies of God. He was also an honorary Presbyter.

Upon his retirement, the Johnsons moved to Menominee, MI. They served as interim pastors in White Lake and Beecher, WI, and filled in at various churches. They were members of Lakeside Assembly of God where he also served as treasurer for many years. Gordon loved to travel and to be with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Green Bay Packers. Pastor Johnson was a quiet man with a true Pastor’s heart who loved God and people. He was also known as a man of prayer and loved to visit people. He was a friend and pastor to many. In his retirement years he ministered to many people by phone.
