Ernest Miemietz

(8/16/12)  Ernest Miemietz,  87, of Independence, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center.

Ernie was born October 27, 1924 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to John and Gertrude (Klimek) Miemietz.  He married Adeline Slaby on June 25, 1952 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She died July 8, 1998.

Ernie hauled milk for Independence Creamery until 1966 then worked for the Trempealeau County Highway Department until retirement.

Ernie was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army     and served on the Independence volunteer fire department.

Survivors include his two children, George Miemietz of Independence, Phyllis (fiancé Bob King) Miemietz of Spring Lake Park, Minn., daughter-in-law, Ann Miemietz of Independence, sister, Loretta Kamrowski of Winona, Minn.; six grandchildren, Chad, Leslie and Dale (Alison) Miemietz, Diana (Derek) Anderson, Scott and Ivy Miemietz; two great-grandchildren, Will Miemietz and Makenna Anderson; nieces and nephews; and a grand-dog, Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Gerald Miemietz; two brothers, Edward and John Miemietz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating.  Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery.  

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-10 a.m. Monday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
