(4/15/14) Dale Ulysses Mills, 76, of La Crosse died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
Dale was born in Viroqua, March 28, 1938, to Ulysses and Nora (Skaug) Mills. He graduated from Central High School in La Crosse in 1955. Dale married Barbara Hostrawser May 28, 1960. He made many, many friends throughout his life. Dale had a very generous and giving spirit. His friends included associates and customers from Trane Co., Handy Builders Hardware, Dahl Ford, Hammond Buick and for the past 20 years at Bob Burg Auto.
Dale also owned and operated Tietz True Value Hardware on La Crosse's North Side. He was one of the original members of the La Crosse Wheelman Bicycle Club. He enjoyed camping and snowmobiling with his Black River Falls family. He especially enjoyed watching Kevin and Andy's many sporting activities. His other interests included NASCAR, golf, the Badgers, Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Dale is survived by his wife, Barbara; and their two children, Gayla (Dave) Mills of Austin, Texas, and Jeff (Teresa) Mills of Onalaska; two grandchildren, Kevin Mills of Eau Claire, and Andy (Linzi) Mills of La Crosse; one step-grandchild, Ryan Rozmenoski of Onalaska; brother, Jack (Mary) Mills of Onalaska; sister-in-law, Darlene Mills of La Crosse; brother-in-law, Allan Hostrawser of Black River Falls; sister-in-law, Darlene Hostrawser of Black River Falls; sister-in-law, Alice Hall of Colorado; and by many nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Ray Mills.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Service of Onalaska, 907 Sand Lake Road. The Rev. Scott Skogen will officiate. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. Private burial will take place in the Onalaska City Cemetery at a later date.
