(4/25/14)  John B. Potts, age 88, of Black River Falls and formerly of Ashland and Madison died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his home in Black River Falls after an extended illness.

John entered this world in a more peaceful time on September 29, 1925 in LaCrosse, WI to George Branson and Hazel Faye (Showen) Potts.

For the most part, John thoroughly enjoyed the maturation process in Viroqua.  Reminiscing about those times, has been a favorite pastime of John's over these many years.

He spent a hitch in the Navy during WWII, mostly in the Pacific.  After serving in the Navy and completing his college education, John pursued a profession in social services in the Midwest.  He was the welfare director in Jackson County, and was a social worker for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

John married his first love, Betty Dalby, and lost her later, as the result of an automobile accident in 1973.  He later married a high school friend, Mary L. Buchanan, who died in 2013.

He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaylah Sadie Potts, two sisters, Colleen Deters of Viroqua, and Delores Burrows of Madison.

Leaving to witness things that he will not be privy to upon his demise, are his sons, Jeff Potts, Black River Falls, and David (Dorothy) Potts, Alma Center, WI, grandchildren, Rachel, Kimberlee, and Zack, and step-children, George, Peter, and Nancy Roth.

Private, memorial graveside services, with military honors, will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.

Memorials may be given to Black River Memorial Hospice.

Torgerson's Funeral Home (715-284-4321) of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
