Obituaries

Verna M. Halama

(1/11/12) Verna M. Halama, 93, of Independence, died Wednesday,  January 11, 2012, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall.

Verna was born December 16, 1918 in Arcadia Township, Trempealeau County, to Joseph and Annie (Kokott) Prudlick.  She married August Halama September 5, 1939 in Pampa, Texas.  He died January 26, 1984.

Verna loved her pets, gardening and the music by the Rhythm Playboys. She enjoyed her visits with George and Mary Jo Halama and receiving communion from them. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Women's Organization.

Verna is survived by a son, Sam (Mary Lou) Halama of Joplin, Mo., a daughter, Sally West of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jonny West, Jerry (Lois George) Baker, Robin Wyle, Debbie West, Scott Wright, Steve (Linda) Baker, Ronnie Ware and Chris West; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sue Ware and Shirley Baker; a sister, Helen Matchey; four brothers, Tom, George, Pete and Andrew Prudlick and a grandson, Randy Ware.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Victor G. Gilbertson

(1/12/12) Victor G. Gilbertson, age 95, of Black River Falls, Wi. died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 in the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.  Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 5 until 7:15 P.M.at Torgerson's Funeral Home (715-284-4321) 408 N. Water St. Black River Falls and at the church on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.  There will be a public Masonic Service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 P.M.  Memorials may be given to the Parkside Residence, Family Heritage Care Center, or Black River Memorial Hospice.

James Oscar Potter

James Oscar Potter, age 74, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away, Monday, January 9, 2012, as a result of an accident on his cranberry marsh.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah.  Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Burial will follow in the Warren Mills Cemetery, Warrens, Wisconsin.   Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah

Zolan Wallen

(1/10/12) Zolan Wallen, 6 months, of Black River Falls, WI passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012, at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI.  Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton.  Reverend Terry Marg will be officiating.  Burial will follow in Sullivan Cemetery, Black River Falls, WI.  Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton is assisting the family with arrangements.
