BRF Tiger Hockey suffered their second straight loss to a top ten opponent, falling 0-3 vs Central Wisconsin Storm at the Greenback Fieldhouse in Schofield, WI, bringing the season record to 6-6-1.
The Storm tallied only the second power play goal relinquished by the Tigers this season when a shot from high in the zone took an unfortunate bounce of a defenders leg and into the net. The Storm caught the Tigers on their heals a little bit during the rebound from that goal and tallied a second goal only 12 seconds later when a shot from the blue line was deflected past Tiger goaltender Josie Mathison from right out in front of the crease. The Tigers settled in and played a very evenly matched, up and down the ice second period against last years State Champion Storm team but were unable to find the back of the Storm net. The Storm tallied an insurance goal late in the third to secure the win. The game was played on an olympic sized rink allowing a lot of wide open play and proceeded with very few penalties. The Tigers came into the game without having skated the day prior due to weather related cancellations and looked rusty to start the game. The Storm are a very disciplined team and play very much the same type of game we strive to play. Friday night they anticipated play a little quicker, were just a step quicker to loose pucks than us, and played a little bit stronger in the one on one battle situations that occur all over the ice. We will learn from it and go back to work Monday in a game vs the Badger Lightning at the Milt Lunda arena in BRF, which was previously postponed.
