Eric Thames hit his 16th homer of the season over the right field fence in the bottom of the ninth inning to push the Brewers past Texas 6-5 Friday night in a dramatic finish at Miller Park.
The homer from Thames came with two outs on a 3-1 count. It followed a homer by Elvis Andrus to center field in the top of the ninth for the Rangers to tie the game. Milwaukee took the lead in what had been a 2-2 game with three runs in the seventh inning. Texas answered back with two runs in the eighth, and then the Andrus homer in the ninth to tie it at 5-5. It is Milwaukee's fourth straight win and keeps them in position for the second National League Wild Card ahead of the surging Mets. They host Texas again tonight (Saturday) in the second of the three-game set. The Brewers' Josh Hader got his second win against five losses on the season.
