The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department is asking its highest-paid employees to extend a voluntary pay cut.
Two dozen – including football coach Paul Chryst, basketball coach Greg Gard, and athletic director Barry Alvarez -- agreed to a 15-percent pay cut in May, lasting through October. The coronavirus pandemic is expected to create losses of 60-to-70 million dollars. Now, the department wants to extend the pay reduction through late February. With a contract worth more than four-point-two million dollars, Chryst will give up more than 400 thousand dollars from his paycheck – if the reduction isn’t extended again.
