Zach Zillmer scored a pair of thrid period goals as the Black River Falls/Melrose Mindoro/Neillsville Tigers hockey co-op, eliminated Tomah 6-5 Tuesday night in Tomah.
Down 4-3 early in the third period, Ryan Millis found the back of the net to even the game at 4-4. 6 minutes later, Zillmer put the Tigers ahead 5-4 on an assist from Millis and Josh Kunes, who had four points on the night. Calvin LeQue answered for Toma tying the game, before Zillmer finished with a put-back goal with a little over 6 minutes remaining. The Tigers now head to Wisconsin Rapids Thursday (Weather permitting) for a second round game against top seed Lincoln.
Kunes had a pair of goals for BRF/MM, and Jojo Arnaud scored a pretty shorthanded goal in the first period. Three of Tomah's five goals came while they were on the power play as the Tigers suffered through 8 different penalties in the first period, which carried over to period number 2. Sophomore Cody King had a good night between the pipes including a game saving snare late in the contest keeping the potential tying goal from crossing the line.
