Officials seeking solutions to Wisconsin’s drunk driving program point to a Sunday traffic accident in Mount Pleasant as a prime example of the problem. All three drivers involved in a three-vehicle crash were charged with operating while intoxicated. Wisconsin State Senator Alberta Darling says the state’s greatest problem is repeat offenders and one of the three drivers was charged with a third O-W-I offense. Darling says she has been working for eight years to stiffen the penalties for drunk drivers – some of the most lenient in any state. One-hundred-40 people were killed in drunk driving accidents in Wisconsin during 2019.
