Susan Dawn Larson, 83, of Strum passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in Strum,
Wisconsin.
Sue was born April 14, 1943 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Odell and Clara (Skoyen)
Bergerson. She was the fourth of five children in her family. After graduating from Eleva-
Strum Central High School in 1961, Sue moved to St. Paul to work for Lutheran
Brotherhood. She moved back to Strum and married her high school sweetheart, Mel
Larson Jr. on April 20, 1963. Shortly after, Sue was hired by the United States Postal
Service. Through her 30 plus years of service she served as a postal clerk in Eau Claire
and was a temporary postmaster in Strum and Osseo.
After retiring in 2004, she enjoyed traveling with Jr., meeting friends for coffee, and
caring for her grandchildren. Later she decided to rejoin the workforce at Robbe’s
Family Market as a cashier. Sue took pride in her work, her cooking, and everything she
did.
Playing cards, especially cribbage, was one of Sue’s favorite pastimes. Often Sue
would attend weekly cribbage club tournaments in Eau Claire. She always had time to
show anyone, but especially her sons, who the real cribbage champ was. On many
summer afternoons, Sue, Jr., and family members could be found on the porch playing
cards.
Sue had a big, kind heart towards everyone and every living thing. There was always a
twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. No matter what she was doing, there was
always time to catch up if she ran into an old friend or someone new.
She is survived by her three sons, Patrick (Roxy), Mike (Tammi), Jon (Shannon), and
seven grandchildren, Dusti, Sean, Sophia, Jenna, Jolee, Braedon, and Abby.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Odell and Clara, her sister Soni, and
brothers Ron, Dick, Danny and the love of her life Mel Larson Jr.
Sue was an active, lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum. Funeral
services will be on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 11:00 from Immanuel Lutheran Church with visitation beginning two hours
before the service. Burial will take place at West Beef River Cemetery following the
service.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, Sue wanted donations to be given to Immanuel Lutheran
Church.
Her family would like to thank all of the health care workers who treated her with dignity
and compassion through the years. Also they would like to thank Pastor Terry Lorenz
and Schiefelbein Funeral Home for all of their help during this difficult time.
