Wisconsin hunters are reminded by the DNR that the application period for the 2021 Wisconsin Elk Hunt is open now through May 31st. This year’s hunt will take place October 16th – November 14th, and then again December 9th-17th. The hunt will be focused on Wisconsin’s northern elk herd population, centered around Clam Lake. The DNR reports that herd rose to a total of 300 in 2020. While the central Wisconsin herd also rose in population, it is not expected to be included in the hunt this year. Interested hunters can apply online at gowild.wi.gov. Applications cost $10, and $7 of that goes towards the elk management and research in Wisconsin. If selected for the hunt, individuals will be notified by the DNR in early June. At that point, the elk hunting license will cost $49.
