With the nationwide pause on the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, local health departments are doing the same. The Jackson County Health Department was supposed to start giving out the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine this week at its drive-thru clinic at Jackson Electric. The clinic is still on as scheduled, and they will be offering the Moderna vaccine. Trempealeau County was also administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and they report that 50 people in the county had already received the vaccine prior to the announcement by the CDC and FDA. No severe reactions have been reported there. Out of the 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine given out in the nation, there have been 6 cases where the recipients developed the rare blood clot. All were women between the ages of 18-48 and reported symptoms 6-13 days after receiving the vaccine. If you’ve received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, area health departments say if your leg or arm begin to cramp, swell, or become warm to the touch to seek medical assistance.
