Officials with the Chippewa Fire District say a batch of maple syrup being distilled caught on fire when the homeowner walked away for a moment Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported. W-E-A-U / T-V reports people who were driving by on Highway 29 spotted the flames at about 3:00 p-m and several called 9-1-1 to report the problem. Fire crews from five departments responded to the emergency. It took about an hour to bring the fire under control. Firefighters said wood, gas, and other items that were nearby also caught on fire spreading the flames.
