The Wisconsin Bear Hunters’ Association is calling for the reinstatement of a regulated wolf hunt following the removal of nine wolves in Price County by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
According to the DNR, the pack was removed after six verified human safety conflicts were reported between July 2025 and August 2026. Officials attempted nonlethal deterrents, but those efforts were unsuccessful, and relocation was not considered feasible.
Wisconsin Bear Hunters’ Association President Carl Schoettel says the situation highlights the need for additional tools to manage the state’s wolf population and protect public safety.
The association is urging state and federal policymakers to pursue a regulated wolf hunt as part of Wisconsin’s broader wildlife management strategy, emphasizing public safety, scientific evidence, and balance between wildlife and people.
