Betty Louise (Lund) Hizer, age 65 of Black River Falls, passed away Wednesday November 25, 2020 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, surrounded by her loved ones and under the care of St. Croix Hospice, LaCrosse.
Betty was born November 21, 1955 in Whitehall WI to Dennis and Lois (Olson) Lund. The family lived in Northfield at that time and when she was 1 year old they moved to Hixton. She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1973 and then went to WWTC in La Crosse.
Betty met and dated Samuel Hizer in high school, and in May of 1976 they were married. Together they raised three wonderful children Melissa, Travis and Corey.
Betty worked at the butter factory in La Crosse, before moving back to Black River Falls. She then took jobs working at Pine View Nursing Home and for the School District. Betty was in her 30’s when she was first diagnosed with MS.
Betty loved her family first and foremost, followed by her horses. She enjoyed watching old TV shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. She always had a smile for everyone and loved engaging conversations with everyone she met. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls.
Surviving Betty are her husband Sam; her children Melissa, Travis, and Corey; her grandchildren Gavin and Ava; her mother Lois Lund; sisters Karen Skroch, Teri (Roger) Osegard and Jane (Rick) Hodge and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Dennis Lund; her in-laws Glen and Marie Hizer; and he grandparents Christ and Julia Lund and Fred and Sylvia Olson.
The family wishes to extend their warmest Thank You to all of Betty’s caregivers throughout these many years; the countless loving in-home caregivers that helped keep her spirits up as she dealt with her MS, as well as those caregivers who later showed her compassion and gave of their time both at Country Terrance and Meadowbrook as well as thru St. Croix Hospice. Thank you.
Due to Covid-19 precautions, restrictions and limitations there will be a private family funeral service for Betty at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on Co. Rd. A, Saturday December 5, 2020 at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls. Dear friend of the family, Pastor Eldon Simonson will officiate. There are plans for a ‘Celebration of Betty’s Life’, at a later date, time and place yet to be determined but will be announced.
