A Black River Falls man is dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a traffic stop. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday night around 10:00, a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a vehicle driving without headlights, speeding, and failing to stop at a stop sign on Low Cloud Road, Brockway. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 39-year-old Robert Goodbear of Black River Falls. The deputy had suspected that Goodbear was intoxicated and called for another deputy to perform field sobriety tests. While the deputy was waiting, Goodbear exited his vehicle and was holding a firearm. Goodbear shot himself while walking towards the deputy. EMS was called to the scene, and lifesaving measures were performed. Goodbear was transported to the hospital for treatment, but passed away on Sunday. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has asked the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the incident.
