A virtual celebration was held earlier this month to recognize Steve Peterson as he was awarded the “Dr. George Wilson Service Award” by the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association. The award is presented yearly by the WPRA to recognize outstanding service to the parks and recreation profession. Peterson currently serves as the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Black River Falls, and began work with the city in 1987. Peterson has served multiple positions on the Board of Directors for the WPRA, and also received the “Park Section Outstanding Professional of the Year Award” in 2018. He’s served on many committees throughout Jackson County, and is currently President of the MLMA Advisory Committee and the Jackson County Fair Park Advisory Committee. It was announced in January that Peterson would be retiring as Parks & Recreation Director on June 1st.
