April 16th is National Healthcare Decision Day, and Black River Memorial Hospital is reminding people of the importance of setting up a Power of Attorney for Healthcare document, otherwise known as an advance directive. An advance directive allows someone you choose to help with healthcare decisions if you’re not able to make them yourself. Michelle Goetting, patient and family service coordinator at BRMH, says that the advance directive is important as it provides guidance to family members on your healthcare wishes in the event that you become sick or injured and cannot communicate your wishes. Power of Attorney Healthcare forms can be found online on the Community Resources section at brmh.net, or by calling the hospital at 715-284-5361 and asking to speak with a social worker.
