For the next week, it’s the annual Click It or Ticket Campaign. The campaign normally lines up with the Memorial Day weekend, when most people are out travelling. Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera says ,”With so many people travelling for the holiday, it’s vital to get the word out about the importance of wearing a seatbelt.” Wisconsin’s primary seatbelt law has been in place since 2009, and allows law enforcement to stop and cite motorists that fail to wear their seatbelt. It’s reported that 89% of Wisconsinites wear their seatbelts, and the 11% that don’t make up 43% of all drivers and passengers killed in traffic crashes in 2020. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reports that their deputies, as well as officers with the Black River Falls Police Department and the Melrose Police Department will be patrolling longer hours during the campaign to spread the safety message. The Click It or Ticket Campaign runs through June 6th.
