The deep freeze that hit Texas shut down refineries, idling production, and is now being seen in higher gas prices in Wisconsin. Badger State pump prices range from $2.30 a gallon to $2.99. GasBuddy.com petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan says the cold weather has moved out and, if refineries come back online quickly, the prices could begin a slow drop. The break won’t last long. Refineries will soon start to transition to summer blends and a longer-term increase in the cost you pay for that tank of gas will resume. The average price of gas has jumped more than 10-cents-a-gallon in the last week and it is 24-cents-a-gallon higher than just one month ago.
