David Alan Onstad hit the glory road on Monday October 18th, 2021 at the age of 78 years old. Born May 1st, 1943 to Dexter Onstad and Ruth (Hestekind) Onstad, David grew up with his 7 siblings in Black River Falls. Following high school David entered the Army and serviced Active Duty until 1964 as a SP/S at the 319th Station Hospital. David continued working in federal service roles for many years.

His final career role was Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation for the Business Activities Division at Fort McCoy. He retired in 2005.

A long recovered alcoholic of 46 years, David put his heart and soul into his sponsorship activities with AA. More times than we can count, the family has been told what an immense support David was in countless lives. Through his work with AA members, David’s legacy of empathy, support and caring will live on.

Preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Ruth, siblings William Armstrong, Marilyn (Armstrong) Drangstveit and Dick Armstrong, Rose (Tutti) Messer, and Robert Onstad. David is survived by his sister Karen (Ken) Wilkins and brother Gary (Nancy) Onstad, many nieces and nephews, Geoff (Lisa) Wilkins, Lori Wilkins, Lara Zillmer, Ann (Brad) Eberhardt, Stephanny (Bill) Strachan, Terri (Scott) Hamilton, Richard Onstad, Rick (Susan)Drangstveit, Mark (Jennie) Drangstveit, Kathie (Rod)Landerking, Alan (Karen) Drangstveit, Scott (Debra)Drangstveit and Kari (Scott) Peterson. Also survived by extended family and countless special friends.

Services will be held Friday, October 29th at 11am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Black River Falls. Luncheon at the church to follow. Burial at Riverside Cemetery with military honors at 1:30 following luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please donate in David’s memory to the Black River Falls Public Library.
