Wisconsin is celebrating June Dairy Month by reaffirming its title as the “World’s Dairyland.” State leaders say Wisconsin continues to lead the dairy industry through the work of farmers, processors, veterinarians, and other agricultural professionals. Dairy exports are growing, especially to Mexico — now the top export market for Wisconsin cheese — and Thailand, where demand for dairy ingredients is increasing.
The dairy industry contributes nearly $53 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy. The state produces more than 600 varieties of cheese, nearly twice as many as any other state, and remains a leader in high-protein dairy products like cheese, yogurt, and whey protein ingredients.
Officials also highlighted programs like the Center for Dairy Research and the Dairy Innovation Hub for supporting innovation and sustainability in the industry. Consumers are encouraged to support local dairy farmers by looking for the “Proudly Wisconsin Dairy” and “Something Special from Wisconsin” labels in stores this month.
