Today is National Eagle Day, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is celebrating not only the remarkable recovery of bald eagles in the state but also the 85th anniversary of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Thanks to key conservation efforts—including a national ban on DDT, river cleanups, and state nest monitoring—bald eagles have soared back from the brink in Wisconsin.
The DNR is encouraging residents to support the next generation of endangered species recoveries by purchasing an Endangered Resources license plate. These special plates come with a $25 annual donation that directly funds conservation for over 400 wildlife and 300 plant species—including little brown bats, rusty patched bumble bees, and ornate box turtles.
Last year alone, the program raised over $470,000, making a major impact on protecting Wisconsin’s natural heritage.
