The DNR will be working with other state and federal agencies to remove invasive carp from the Mississippi River. In March of last year, 51 invasive carp were captured in Pool 8 of the Mississippi River, which is near La Crosse. The effort to remove the invasive carp will begin on April 5th. The DNR reports that it will be using a new method not used in Wisconsin or Minnesota waters yet. The new method, called the Modern Unified Method, or MUM, was developed by the US Geological Society and uses block nets alongside electrofishing boats equipped with underwater speakers to herd the invasive species into a small area to allow the removal. The removal efforts are expected to take 7 to 10 days.
