Donald J. “Joe” Peterson, of Hixton, passed away Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at his home. Joe was born July 31st in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Donald L. Peterson and Barbara A. (Bue) Peterson. Named after his father, his Grandma Bue gave him the nickname Joey when he was born. He graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1977.

He was married to Julie Hanson in September 1982. They had 3 children together; Laura, Matthew and Stacy. They later divorced.

He married Shirley J Peterson on August 17th 2007 at their home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in their back yard. They loved their pets and growing a vegetable garden at their home.

Joe was a meat cutter his whole working life and worked at various facilities. He worked extra hours every dear season helping to process the venison for the hunters.

An avid sports fan, he loved Brewers baseball, Packers football, and Bucks basketball. He enjoyed a shot of goldschlager after a Brewers win at Brookside Tavern in Hixton. Joe also enjoyed fishing whether just on the shore of the Trempealeau River or Muskie fishing trips with his dad and brothers.

He is survived by his children, Laura (Jason) Arnhoelter, Matthew Peterson, and Stacy Peterson. He is further survived by his mother Barbara Peterson, sisters Diana Benedict and Kathy Thomas, brothers Randy Peterson and Michael Peterson and sister in law Belinda Peterson, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Shirley Peterson, his father Donald L. Peterson, and his special dog Spot.

Funeral Services for Joe will be held Saturday November 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Jensen- Modjeski Funeral Home (128 S. Hoffman St. Hixton, WI). Reverand Terry Marg will officiate. Friends are welcome to call on the family from 1:00 pm until time of services.
