Elliott Garvin (Ahusak), 75, of Black River Falls, began his journey on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his
loved ones. He was born March 10th, 1948, to Ruby and Francis Garvin and grew up in Black River Falls.
Elliott was a good soul and was generous with his time and energy for anyone he crossed paths with.
Not only was he a dedicated leader of the Ho-Chunk traditional ways, but a great Ho-Chunk teaser as
well. His sense of humor with others and his warmth left an impression on many. Elliott had many
accomplishments from being a Ho-Chunk District 1 Legislator to his most fulfilling experience as an
eminent speaker and language instructor of the Ho-Chunk Nation. He loved to travel and was not above
a trip to a casino from time to time.
He is survived by his brothers, Cecil (Renata) Garvin, and Larry (Sadie) Garvin; children, Ron (Kim)
Nichols, Karena (Dana) Thundercloud, Mike (Pam) Penisten, and Steve (Shelly) Garvin; and numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elliott was preceded in death by his lifelong partner, Elethe, his parents, Ruby and Francis Garvin, and
two sons, Mike and Kevin Nichols.
A visitation will be held at the Buswell Funeral Home in downtown Black River Falls on Monday, March
11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Traditional services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at
10:00 a.m. at his residence, located at N6801 Eddy Road in Black River Falls. Elliott (Ahusak) will be laid
to rest at the Decorah Cemetery.
