The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is assisting Eau Claire County in launching a pilot program to test SpaceX’s Starlink internet service. Governor Tony Evers and W-E-D-C officials visited Eau Claire yesterday (Thursday) to highlight the need for high-speed internet in rural areas. Starlink is a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites that can provide service where broadband is limited or not available. The pilot project will give high-speed internet to 50 rural homes and businesses. Governor Evers said, “making sure that every Wisconsinite has access to this vital service is going to require creativity and innovation, and that’s the kind of approach W-E-D-C’s investment in Starlink demonstrates.” His two-year budget invests nearly 200-million dollars toward expanding broadband.
