The Legislative Fiscal Bureau confirms that Wisconsin could be in line for an additional one-billion dollars in federal funding if the state’s BadgerCare program is expanded. The money would come under the federal American Rescue Plan Act passed Wednesday. The expansion is included in Governor Tony Evers’ biennial budget proposal. Republican lawmakers oppose expanding BadgerCare due to the need to continue the program after the federal money goes away. State Senator Jon Erpenbach says there is no reason the state shouldn’t provide more affordable, quality coverage while accepting one-billion dollars more in federal funding.
