Help Stop The Spread Of Aquatic Invasive Species

Great Lakes Landing Blitz, June 30 – July 13

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding boaters and anglers to help stop the spread of invasive species during the Great Lakes Landing Blitz, happening June 30 through July 13, 2025.

As part of the campaign, Clean Boats, Clean Waters inspectors will be stationed at boat landings statewide to educate the public about aquatic invasive species—especially during the busy Independence Day holiday weekend.

These volunteers will demonstrate how to prevent the spread of unwanted plants and animals, like inspecting and cleaning boats and equipment before and after water use.

Erin McFarlane, statewide educator for the program, says the Landing Blitz is crucial, especially as both frequent and first-time boaters hit the water.

Launched in 2008, Wisconsin’s campaign has since expanded to become a Great Lakes-wide effort, involving U.S. states, Canadian provinces, and Indigenous Nations with support from the Great Lakes Commission.

To protect Wisconsin’s waters, the DNR urges everyone to follow these key steps:

Inspect and clean boats, trailers, and gear.

Drain all water from boats and equipment.

Never move plants or live fish between waterbodies.

And dispose of bait in the trash.
