In a unanimous vote on January 19th, the Ho-Chunk Legislature decided that it will create a committee to review proposals from vendors outside of the Ho-Chunk Nation. The Legislative Organization Act, which was enacted in 2001, required the Legislature to investigate outside vendors, and with the new committee, Ho-Chunk Nation President Marlon WhiteEagle says it’ll finally start applying the law. WhiteEagle said, “It would have been ideal to have this committee back in 2000-2010 when the Nation faced bribery issues on gaming and government contracts. The Nation has had many contracts that have gone through without this additional investigative measure.”
