Iris Mae Laes, Bear Clan of the Ho-Chunk Nation, age 69 of Black River Falls, WI passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Mayo Franciscan Hospital in Lacrosse, WI surrounded by her family and friends.

Iris, a beloved Mother, Sister, Gaaga and friend to many was born October 5th 1952 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Paul Smith and Bertha Blackhawk. Iris leaves behind three children, Ira “Little Sky” Laes, Autumn Machado, Bobby Wilkinson and Daughter in-law Mandy Laes. She is survived by her beloved nieces Cheyenne and Sommer. Her grandchildren Jocelyn, Rain, Kaya, Naiya, Aerius, Keanu, Uriah and her devoted friends Rae Anna and Patty.

Iris was a natural caretaker, both in her years in healthcare services and with her family. In her earlier years working as a CNA she would regularly bring home patients to be treated as a surrogate relative. Later in life her love for children led her to become a foster mother to many children in her community.

Travel was always coursing in her desires, as she was always looking to the mountains near Plattsburgh, NY where she began her sobriety journey 28 years ago until her passing. Her passions included camping, cooking creatively for her family that birthed dishes such as Billy noodles, Taco nights and Beading jewelry. One of her super powers was her sense of humor, she was known to belt out one of her infectious laughs or an abrasively loud sneeze. Her generosity was well known and she could always be heard saying “My Treat!” when dining out or by gifting her belongings to those around her. She will be missed by many.
