Jack Walter Windsor, aged 87, entered eternal life on May 24, 2024. Jack was born in
Black River Falls on June 30,1936 to his late parents Walter and Frances (Frerking).
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, Patricia (Klassy), whom he
married on February 24, 1962, in New Glarus Wisconsin. Loving father of Heather
(Dirk) Mlachnik, Sean (Bobbi Jo) and Brent (Michele). Grandfather to 11 grandchildren
and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and best friend, Gary
(Pam) and many more loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his
parents and his brother, Thomas.
Jack attended Black River Falls High school and joined the Army in 1959 before
embarking upon his career as a heavy equipment operator who traveled Wisconsin
building roads throughout the state. He worked for Millis Brothers Ford Garage, Ryan
Brothers Construction and finally Hoffman Construction where he spent over 50 years
operating a bulldozer and eventually retiring.
He met Patsy (as he called her) while she was waitressing in New Glarus Wisconsin
and often joked about making her scoop ice cream for him, so she had to bend over the
freezer. He ate many meals at the Alpine Cafe so that he could spend more time with
her. Upon returning to Black River Falls he would travel south to UW-Platteville to visit
Pat who was studying to be a teacher. Eventually they married, and they would
ultimately return to Black River Falls to settle down and raise their family.
Throughout their life together they loved to camp and during the summer Pat and the
kids would join Jack wherever he was working and set up home base first in a makeshift
truck bed camper, eventually upgrading to trailers and motorhomes. Jack loved fishing,
hunting, snowmobiling and four-wheeling as well as spending time at the Casino. He
was a die-hard FORD man until he won a shiny new red Dodge Ram truck at the
Casino and drove that for many years. You can still see it around Black River as he
recently sold it to a local.
His love of hunting fostered many great gatherings at the Windsor house during
Opening Deer Hunting weekend for family and extended family to share stories and
camaraderie. He loved being surrounded by family and sharing his love of hunting and
fishing.
Upon retirement, they kicked their camping adventures into high gear traveling west to
Idaho several times to spend time with Brent and Michele and traveling north to Canada
and everywhere in between often with Gary and Pam or Pat’s sister Heidi and brother-
in-law Ron.
Jack was always “larger than life” and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
A memorial luncheon and celebration of life will be held at Skyline Golf Course on
Saturday June 1 st from 11-3. Please join us to share stories and memories of Jack.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Black River Falls Interfaith Services would be
appreciated.
