A Jackson County man is still at large and considered armed and dangerous after he fled the scene of a standoff last night. A Jackson County Deputy responded to a call on Kelly Road in the Town of Springfield to attempt to locate 74-year-old Gary G. Hughes on a felony probation warrant. The deputy made contact with Hughes, and Hughes took out a gun an fired shots as the deputy saying he was not going to go back to jail.
The Deputy exited the scene safely, and a 15-hour negotiation standoff began. There were other people in the house at the time, and all were escorted safely without injury. Upon entering the house, law enforcement discovered that Hughes was no longer there.
Hughes in considered armed and dangerous, and the public is asked not to approach him if seen. Anyone with information on the location of Gary Hughes should contact the Jackson County Dispatch Center at 715-284-5357.
