Jacqueline Lea Shankey, age 71, passed away Saturday April 10, 2021, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
Jackie was born November 29, 1949, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, to Thomas and Katherine (Mitchell) Sandberg. Jackie attended Spring Creek Country School, graduated from Black River Falls High School and Eau Claire Business Secretarial School. She took piano lessons from Mrs Peterson of Squaw Creek, and at the age of eleven she began playing for church services at Trout Run Methodist Church. Jackie was dedicated to everything she did; from working at Hoffman Construction for 47 years to playing the organ in Church for 60 years. Jackie played the organ and baby grand piano, providing music for weddings, funerals, church services and programs, choirs practice ,and personal enjoyment.
Jackie served her community as Town Treasurer of Adams Township, and as a volunteer and Hospice provider. She also volunteered at the Hospital, the Blood Drive, and political elections. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, and the Packers. She ran her first 10-K at the tender age of 66.
Another love was the farm, she participated in all aspects of being a farm wife. She loved being a mother, grandmother and a great cook! Jackie, despite her petite size, was a fighter in all things and that never faltered even until the end.
Jackie is survived by her husband Gary; her two sons Thomas (Nania) Peterson, and Jeff (Rachel) Casper; her three step-sons Travis, Cory and Lucas; her grandchildren Kaylee, Dusty, Meagan, Riley, Layla, Allie; her brother Jerry(Judy) Sandberg; her sisters Jean (Don) Smith, Julie (Al) Ruiz, Rebecca (Randy) Wermes, many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Jackie will be Monday April 19, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Black River Falls United Methodist Church, 100 N. 4th St. Pastor InWha Shon will officiate the service. Burial will follow the service at Trout Run Cemetery. Friends may call on the family during a Visitation Sunday April 18, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Torgerson Funeral Home, 408 N. Water St., in Black River Falls.
