Jean Marlys Grant, 86, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, after spending several days with her
family.
Born on April 18, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Olson and Marian A. Sandeen. She
graduated from Milaca High School and later moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as an
administrative assistant for the Navy Department. It was there that she met the love of her life and future
husband, Randolph E. Grant.
Many years later, after welcoming her two sons, Scott and Taron, Jean began a long and dedicated career with
the United States Post Office. She took great pride in her work and serving her community, ultimately
concluding her career as the Postmaster for the town of DeSoto, IL.
More than anything, Jean loved her family. She was a wonderful cook and a talented quilter, crafting beautiful
pieces and meals that brought her loved ones together. Her home always had an open door, and she filled the
lives of those around her with warmth and patience.
She is survived by her sons, Scott (Ann), and Taron (Erica); her 5 grandchildren; and her 5 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Roger Olson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved
husband, Randolph.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Spring at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in DeSoto, IL. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in her memory.
